Director of Winemaking
Neal Family Vineyards
Many years after buying his father a home wine-making kit, Gove went back to college to pursue a degree in viticulture with a goal of becoming a vineyard manager near the family’s fifth generation home in the Sierra Nevada mountains of Northern California. It was on a Glen Ellen vineyard in the early 1980’s when he hired Jack Neal and his son Mark to assist with the delivery of grapes one harvest. After years of growing and selling grapes in Sonoma County (and home winemaking) he took a job under the Liparita Vineyard brand alongside Merry Edwards and soon became the winemaker. He has remained on Howell Mountain for over 32 years, working with the Neal family in vineyard development initially, then purchasing fruit from vineyards managed by Mark Neal and eventually becoming Mark’s winemaker at Neal Family Vineyards beginning with the 2001 wines.
